Cassia bicapsularis Tree

The Cassia Tree (Cassia bicapsularis) is a deciduous shrub/tree that blooms with bright yellow flowers during mid-fall.  It is native to South America.  It can reach heights of 6-12′ in South Georgia and grows vigorously.  It grows well in zone 9-11 but can tolerate some cold in zone 8.   If cold damages the stems,  pruning close to the ground should regenerate new growth in the spring!

Cassia prefers at least 6 hours of direct sunlight and will grow well in moist, but well-draining soil.  The bright yellow flowers are butterfly attractants!
